This summer Mystic is welcoming a new kid to the block.  Town is abuzz with talk about UK based clothing store, Fat Face.  Located in the new Central Hall building on West Main Street, the Mystic location is the lifestyle clothing and accessories retailer’s 2nd CT location.  Fat Face was founded in 1988 by two men who were enjoying life on the French Alps but were quickly running out of money to support their leisurely lifestyle. They came up with a plan to sell clothing at night then ski during the day and named their new venture after their favorite mountain’s location, La Face. The company began opening stores in the US in 2016 and as of 2019, they have over 200 stores.

Driving by Fat Face I had just assumed that it was going to be a nautical preppy upscale store that I couldn’t afford for everyday clothing. Today was my first visit and wow was I wrong! The store welcomes you with a beautiful tile entrance.  My visit was on a particularly warm day, so the air conditioning was more than a welcome friend.

The store is quite a bit larger than most in Mystic, however, they have managed to fit a lot without overwhelming their shoppers. The oversized windows offer the perfect amount of natural light to the organized and spotlessly clean space.  Upon entering, shoppers will find women’s clothing on the left.   Fat Face has done a beautiful job of creating “ageless” clothing.  I, at the age of 22, found several pieces that are now on my wish list, however, there were an abundance of pieces that both my mother and grandmother would love.  Men’s clothing follows the same philosophy and the children’s options will make the little ones in your life the most stylish kids in the schoolyard.

A Great Addition to a Small Town

Proving that they are not just another chain invading a small town, Fat Face offer custom sweatshirts touting the Mystic, CT name.  It is heartwarming to know that they are paying attention to where they are located even though they are a large company. To me is shows that they want to be apart of our community, a part of Mystic.  Be sure to stop by Fat Face and welcome store manager Kyle and his team to Mystic during your next trip downtown.  They are a wonderful addition with little something for everyone!
