After dining in one of the country’s best-rated restaurants, watching the famous bascule bridge go up, and walking around Mystic’s charming boutiques, I would highly recommend teleporting you and your family to the world of Mystic Seaport Museum!

Whether visiting with a partner, friends, children, or just a curious history buff, the Seaport offers many things. Just a short walk from Downtown Mystic, visit this world-famous attraction and step into a world unchanged by modernization.

Being America’s leading maritime museum, one of the most popular exhibits to spectate is the Charles W. Morgan. This massive wooden ship was a part of a whaling fleet in the early 19th century.

She has the distinction of being one of the last wooden whaling ships in the world. Step aboard and experience the small quarters and dark spaces as you learn how it felt to be a crew member of the Morgan!

A World Unchanged by Modernization

To continue immersing into the life of Mystic in the 1800s, don’t forget to visit the Seaport Village. The historic buildings that make up the village of shops, a pub, and homes were transported to the Seaport from all around New England. There you can experience the village coming to life with historians, musicians, and storytellers!

One of my personal favorites of the Seaport is the Treworgy Planetarium exhibit that has comfortably made its home there. The projection of the night sky and its illuminations are overhead on the surface of a 30-foot diameter dome.  Marvel at the stars, planets, and constellations that sailors have utilized for generations to guide their journey’s.  You may also recognize this spot from Mystic Pizza, where Kat lectures on navigating the stars.

Mystic is also proud to host the 60-year-old Mayflower II that is still being restored and due to be finished in 2019! The preparation of the ship is to celebrate and honor the arrival of the Pilgrims in 1620.

She will return to her home port of Plymouth, MA in September.  Be sure to plan a stay to watch this majestic sight as she explores the banks of the Mystic River, just across from our hotel lobby.

Although the world around us is going through massive changes toward modernization, you will feel humbled experiencing what the simplicity of the Mystic Seaport has to offer.

Between the beautiful water view, events, and interactive exhibits to do with you and your family, it is definitely worth looking into. Guests of The Whaler’s Inn are able to purchase discounted tickets to the Seaport Museum for both adults and youth.   We look forward to welcoming you to not just The Whaler’s Inn, but to the maritime family!
